Social Connection

Living in a free country, we are welcome to have our agency. We are able to make our own decisions and chose our own paths. The citizens of the Provinces in Matched by Ally Condie are all restricted to decisions already made for them. The citizens are matched with their livelong companion and partner. Their professions are chosen for them. Their death dates are already decided. The people in this book are constantly watched and supervised by the government. We often take for granted the freedom that our country offers. We are able to choose our jobs and professions and allowed to make our own decisions. We are able to question ideas and challenge things we don't believe in. We are able to think for ourselves. Sometimes we think our government is too controlling but it doesn't compare to the overbearing governmental control that occurs in the book.
